Inclement Weather in Florence

The Florence government has issued a Red Code Weather alert for an expected storm. The alert is in place for Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15. Currently we are categorizing this as an informational alert of a natural disaster and do not believe that program operations will be significantly impacted, though we are monitoring the weather closely.

Mayor Sara Funaro and Tuscany's civil protection service announced the closure of all schools, including our academic partner, Florence University of the Arts (FUA). The advice has been given to avoid outdoor activities and areas near rivers. Public spaces such as parks, gardens, cemeteries and public green areas are also closed, as well as the suspension of the Cascine stop on the T1 tram line.

CIS Abroad students in Florence have been alerted by FUA regarding the closure of the school. We are currently reaching out to all students on-site to make them aware of security and preparedness measures, and to warn of the danger due to high winds and water levels.
