On Sunday, December 14, there was a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, which resulted in 15 deaths and over three dozen hospitalizations. Authorities responded quickly, and there is no further security threat.Our Health & Safety Team has been monitoring the situation.
The Semester in Newcastle program ended on November 15, though the Semester on the Gold Coast program is still in session. Although the Gold Coast is approximately a nine-hour drive from Sydney, all students were contacted by the onsite team and provided with safety information. All students were provided with contact information and a program emergency number at the beginning of the term to contact onsite staff if they need assistance.
