Earthquake - Japan
Dec 8, 2025 4:32 PM
On Monday, at approximately 11:15 p.m local time (9:15am EST), a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan. CIS Abroad students participated on a recent overnight event this past weekend (in Tohoku) nearer to the impacted area, however they returned to Tokyo and Yokohama on Sunday before the earthquake. We have no reason to believe any students on CIS Abroad programs remained in the area as they all have classes on Mondays, but are actively working to confirm with onsite staff.
