LATEST UPDATE:
Feb 4, 2025 2:23 PM
Dozens of small earthquakes have hit around Santorini, Greece over the past few days. Santorini is a location that students want to visit, and it is a popular tourist destination that will generate many international headlines. More information about the earthquakes can be found here.
Our students are safe and are far from the quakes. Our on-site staff member in Athens is communicating with students to ask them to avoid traveling to the islands.
Our academic partner, The American College of Greece, has sent the following message to all spring 2025 students:
Dear Student,
We hope this email finds you well.
As you may have seen in recent news reports, a series of earthquakes has affected the southern Cyclades region in the last few days. Considering this, we strongly advise against visiting the Greek islands of Amorgos, Santorini (Thira), Anafi, and Ios, at this time.
The Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has issued safety advisories for these areas, recommending that individuals:
- Avoid large indoor gatherings
- Steer clear of old or abandoned buildings
For those currently in or near the affected regions, it is essential to follow the instructions of local authorities and stay updated via local media and emergency alerts.
For further information on how to stay safe during seismic activity, please refer to the following resources provided by the Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection: Protection Guidelines for Earthquakes.
Please remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions.
