Volcanic Activity on Hawai'i Island
May 4, 2018 5:53:51 PM
Recently the island of Hawai'i has experienced volcanic activity. All students on CISabroad programs have been contacted and accounted for, and all are safe. Hawai'i Island is the state's largest island, approximately 200 miles from CISabroad's program location on O'ahu. At this time we have no reason to believe that there will be volcanic activity on the island of O'ahu where Hawai'i Pacific University and CISabroad housing is located.
Our on site staff continue to be available for students to approach with any questions or concerns.
Eruptions have ceased on the island of Hawai'i as of latest reports on Friday, May 4th. However, for the time being CISabroad discourages participants from visiting the island of Hawai'i and areas experiencing volcanic activity where possible.
