South Korea Political Situation - Protests

December 6, 2024

On Saturday, December 7th, tens of thousands of people are expected to take to the streets of Seoul to protest ahead of the vote on whether to impeach South Korean President Yoon.  Peaceful protests have been happening all week, and the Saturday protests are expected to be peaceful and orderly, too.  Transportation strikes are also expected this weekend.  CIS Abroad students have been warned about where the protests will take place so that they can steer clear of those parts of the city.  Furthermore, students are aware that protesting or signing petitions would be considered a violation of the rules in place for student visa holders.
