LATEST UPDATE:
Aug 29, 2025 12:50 PM
On July 28th, 2025 Thailand and Cambodia agreed to allow members from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to monitor a ceasefire that ended border the border clashes from earlier this summer.
There have been continuing border disputes, the most recent took place on August 27th near Prasat Ta Krabey (Prasat Ta Kwai) temple where a landmine detonated, seriously injuring five Thai soldiers. It is unclear whether the landmine was placed recently or was left from prior skirmishes between the two nations along their undemarkated land border.
We remain dedicated to the safety and security of our participants both currently onsite and those arriving for upcoming programs. Since the ceasefire, tensions have lowered. All CIS Abroad program sites in Thailand remain far away from any conflict zones (150+ miles from Bangkok and 550+ miles from Chiang Mai). CIS Abroad programs and their delivery will continue as planned for the Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 terms.
Participants are advised not to visit the border of Thailand and Cambodia, or any cities and towns nearby. If they have any concerns or need assistance, they have been provided with an emergency phone number where they can access a team member 24/7.
You can see our previous alert about this situation here.
